Serology; It is also called serum science and is defined as a methodological science in medicine that detects the presence of antibodies produced against a certain microorganism (virus, bacteria, parasite), foreign proteins (faulty blood transfusion) or the body’s own proteins (auto-immune diseases) or the presence of specific antigen proteins.

Detection of antibodies against foot and mouth virus in serums and determination of their titers (to determine the proportion of an object dissolved in a liquid), potency tests for the control of foot and mouth vaccines, and determination of the level of protection after field vaccinations are among the work of serology laboratories. Serological tests are widely used in the diagnosis of disease, to evaluate the effectiveness of vaccination or to monitor the response to treatment, in the international animal trade, to protect groups of animals free from specific diseases.
